It's surprising to me that I seem to get ~as much value from Superstimulus as I did from Facebook, even though way fewer people are on here. I think it's a combination of:
- The people who have joined are pretty great. The total stuff happening here is not massive (yet!), but I really like what is happening here: Questions, conversations, random updates. It just feels really wholesome and friendly and I appreciate y'all a lot. I hope it's as nice for others as it is for me; and if not, I (biasedly, of course) highly recommend inviting the people you most want to have in your community.
- I think it turns out that most of the value I was getting from posting to Facebook was in having a place to post this kind of not-for-twitter-but-also-not-for-a-blog content, where at least some of my friends would see it and engage.
- The obvious stuff: Friendica is actually trying to be the thing that I want, and Facebook is trying to make Meta money, and so even though Friendica has probably <1/1000th the effort behind it, at least that effort is in the right direction. No ads, no reels, no weird algorithm BS.
