Misc notes on Latin learning
- It's annoying how the future and imperfect tenses have b's in them, and also how the future tense has different endings for 1st/2nd vs 3rd/4th conjugation verbs.
- If anyone else has the question "at what point in familia romana will I be ready to read pugio bruti", the answer for me was after reading chapter 20. At this point, I don't understand everything, but i understand enough that i can do some combination of looking stuff up and guessing without it being fatal to the reading experience
- also this seems to be the point at which i can listen to satura lanx's beginner's podcast and kinda follow along despite not understanding everything.
- I like how Familia Romana has representation for extremely romantically inept men ("honey am i still as beautiful as i was then?" "yes. except that you're fatter now" "that's because i'm pregnant you prick, btw surprise re: that")
- It's very cool that print-on-demand books exist, and the Latin learning community is but one beneficiary of this technology.
- I found a typo in the glossary of pugio bruti: in the entry for "redeō, -īre, -iī, -itum", it says "go gack" where it should instead say "go back". Not a big deal but I'm a bit sad there's seemingly nowhere I can report this erratum.
