There's a plug-in I could enable that I think does this on the front end, but when I tried it before it seemed to slow things down enough that it was unpleasant. I'll reenable it now, but may turn it off again if it seems to have the same effect this time.

I've turned it on - you can configure it by going to settings -> add-ons -> advanced content filter
